I thought I was acting rather strangely last night when I shouted for joy when the win was announced, and sat with a very wet face during President-elect Obama’s most moving speech. But, obviously, I was not alone in my reaction. I’m a white woman who was fortunate enough to be raised in a home where I was taught that only a person’s actions counted - not who they were. However, I’m old enough to remember the shameful days of segregation, insults and inequality. I voted for Barack because of his capabilities; however, the fact that we have reached the point where he could not only run, but win, has to be one of the proudest moments in the history of our country.
